The History of Seton Catholic Central

Founded in 1989 at a joint meeting of the Board of Trustees of Mount Assumption Institute and the School Board of

St. John's Academy.  Encompassing the richness of the traditions of both of these schools and inspired be the spirit

of our patroness, Saint Elizabeth Seton, has allowed Seton Catholic Central to offer a quality learning environment

infused with Catholic Christian values.

Seton Catholic Central is a school rich in Catholic tradition, seeking to educate the whole person by caring for the

spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical life of every student.

In 2001, Seton Catholic Central further expanded its program to include a grade 7-8 program. In 2004, we purchased

and moved to a new school campus on New York Avenue, located on the former Air Force Base. This move ushered

in a new era and a solid future for Catholic education in the North Country.

Saint Elizabeth Seton is the patroness of Seton Catholic Central School and is known as the patroness of Catholic

education. She was the founder of the first free American Catholic School and is the first American-born Saint of

the Roman Catholic Church.
